Bracken Rothwell boys bounce back after disappointing start at Le Tournoi

The day didn’t go as planned for the Bracken Rothwell team in this year’s annual Le Tournoi football event.

A combination of deficiencies up front and a lack of concentration at the back could have been to blame, as a series of soft goals lead to consecutive defeats in four matches, in which we were only able to score three times in games that finished 3-0, 2-1, 4-1 and 5-1.

The results, however flattering to the opposition, inevitably left us at the bottom of our group with no points, which resulted in disqualification from the following day’s knockout phase.

Despite the previous day’s games, the squad remained confident that we could do better, as we felt the results were down to mistakes rather than lack of ability. We regrouped and prepared for the day’s only match against the Everton FC and Arsenal FC coaching staff, who were undoubtedly our hardest opposition of the weekend.

After a long team-talk, we decided to start that game a little differently than the games of the day before, with a new formation and a counter-attacking playing style. Changes that paid off, as we finished the game with a goal apiece, after going a goal down, and eventually winning the penalty shoot-out.

All in all, the day was a good experience and a fun day out for the players and everyone involved, and we are looking forward to entering a team in next year’s competition, hopefully with better results.
